Most of our customers that come to us are going through the process of building a memorial for the first time. It can be confusing, a little daunting, and naturally they have a lot of questions. So if you’re also new to this, have a read through this article.
1. What’s the difference between a headstones and gravestones?
This is a really common question which causes a lot of confusion. Also throw in tombstones and monuments.The simple answer is that there is no strict definition. In saying that, a headstone usually refers to the stone which lies upright and contains an inscription. While a gravestone or tombstone refers to the monument as a whole. For example, a single gravestone could be made up of a headstone, base, slab, and kerbing.
2. How much does a headstone cost?
Hard question to answer because it will vary on type of monument you choose. It’s usually between $2,000 $20,000. Price will depend on size, style, budget, and cemetery regulations. If you want to find out a bit more on prices, give us a call.
3. How do I choose a monument?
The best place to start is on our website. Our guides and monument gallery should give you an idea of what is available. You can also arrange to meet with one of our monumental masons either at our factory or in the cemetery.
4. How long does it take to complete a memorial?
Usually takes around 3 months. If you’re going to have an unveiling or consecration in the near future, make sure you allocate enough time and let us know.
5. How long do you have to wait before building a memorial?
Whatever is comfortable for you some families want to go ahead immediately, while others prefer to wait. A common custom is having the headstone ready before the 1 year anniversary of the person’s passing.
